Latest published rate 1 CAD = ₦985.00 Published rate as of 29 October 2026, 20:22 UTC. Rates change. The rate in the app when you start a transfer is the one that counts.
This page explains the CAD to NGN rate in plain words. You will see how to read a quote, what the numbers mean, and what can move the rate.
What the rate tells you
A rate says how many units of one currency you get for one unit of another.
The CAD to NGN rate above says how many Nigerian naira (NGN) your recipient gets for one Canadian dollar (CAD). At ₦985.00 per CA$1, a bigger transfer gives a bigger naira amount. The rate itself stays the same.
A worked example
This is a sum, not a quote. It uses the published rate above.
| You send | Recipient gets (at ₦985.00 per CA$1) |
|---|---|
| CA$100.00 | ₦98,500.00 |
| CA$500.00 | ₦492,500.00 |
| CA$1,000.00 | ₦985,000.00 |
| CA$2,000.00 | ₦1,970,000.00 |
Your real quote can differ. The rate may have moved since this page was updated. Always check "Recipient gets" in the app before you confirm.
How to read a quote in the app
Open the Transfer screen. Choose CAD to NGN. Type the amount in "You send". The screen shows:
- You send: the amount in CAD.
- Recipient gets: the amount in NGN.
- Conversion Rate: the rate used for this amount.
After you tap Continue, the app holds your rate and shows a countdown. When the time runs out, the app gets a new rate. If the rate moved, you see "The rate was updated." Read the new amount before you go on.
If the app cannot get a rate, it says "Couldn't get today's rate. Tap to try again." Nothing is taken from you. Try again in a minute.
What can change the rate
The CAD to NGN rate is not fixed. It can change from one day to the next, and sometimes within a day. People often point to:
- Demand for naira and for Canadian dollars. When more people want one currency, its price can rise.
- Oil prices. Nigeria sells a lot of oil. Oil prices can affect how many dollars come into the country.
- Central bank decisions. Interest rate and policy changes in Canada and Nigeria can move a currency.
- News. Elections, budgets and economic reports can all move a rate.
We cannot say which one moves the rate on a given day. We only publish the rate we use, with its time.
Send when it suits you
Many people wait for a "better" rate. Nobody can say what the rate will do next. Waiting can also make your rate worse. A simple plan is to send when your recipient needs the money, and to check "Recipient gets" before you pay.
Look at what your recipient gets
A rate is only one part of the picture. When you compare any two ways to send money, look at the final amount your recipient gets in naira. Also check:
- the fee, if any,
- how you pay,
- when the quote was made.
SendCowris charges no fee on any route. You see the amount your recipient gets before you confirm. Your own bank may charge a fee for the e-Transfer.
What the time on the rate means
The rate block shows the time we last published the rate. The rate stays in force until we publish a new one. So an older time does not mean the rate is out of date. A newer time means the rate moved.
Your own quote is made in the app, at the moment you start a transfer. That is the number to use. Treat the rate on this page as a guide to where the rate stands, not as a quote.
Three questions before you send
Ask yourself these before you confirm a transfer:
- How many naira does my recipient get? Read "Recipient gets", not only the rate.
- Is the countdown still running? If it ended, read the new amount.
- Does the amount match what my recipient needs? If it does not, change the amount before you pay.
From the rate to your recipient's account
The rate is the first step. After you confirm, you pay by Interac e-Transfer from your own bank account. Then we send naira to your recipient's Nigerian bank account. You can follow each step in the Transactions tab. For the full steps, read how to send money to Nigeria from Canada.
See your own number
The quickest way to see what your recipient gets is to type your amount in the app. It takes a few seconds and costs nothing to look.
